(2008-05-08) Vertrauen ist gut, Schlüssel signieren auch. Fellowship-Treffen, Berlin, Deutschland
Am Donnerstag, dem 8. Mai um 19:30 Uhr findet der zweite Teil zu Freie Software und Verschlüsselung statt. Markus Heuser wird hier noch einmal kurz wiederholen, auf was bei der Durchführung einer Key-Signing-Party geachtet werden muss. Gegebenenfalls werden noch einige Punkte des letzten Treffens vertieft um anschließend unter den Anwesenden gegenseitig die Schlüssel zu signieren. (2008-04-11) European Licensing and Legal Workshop
FSFE's Freedom Task Force will host the first European Licensing and Legal Workshop for Free Software on Friday the 11th of April in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The venue for this meeting is the InterContinental Amstel Hotel. The event is targeted towards large projects and medium to large enterprises wishing to discuss their existing licence compliance processes. Parties attending are expected to contribute to issues ranging from process development through to optimising purchasing contract language for the benefit of the European Free Software community. (2008-04-10) Fellowship-Treffen zu Freie Software und Verschlüsselung, Berlin, Deutschland
Am Donnerstag dem 10. April um 19:30 Uhr treffen sich Fellows und Freunde Freier Software in Berlin zum nächsten Fellowship-Treffen. In den ersten 45 Minuten hält Thilo Fromm einen einsteigerfreundlichen Vortrag über die Grundlagen der modernen Kryptografie. Im zweiten Teil wird Markus Heuser einen Überblick über die Geschichte und Funktionen von GnuPG, dem Standard-GNU-Programm für Verschlüsselung, geben. Insbesondere die Generierung von Schlüsselpaaren und Signierung derselbigen auf sog. Key-Signing-Parties für den vertrauensvollen Gebrauch werden dargestellt und Vorbereitungen für die praktische Durchführung (siehe nächstes Fellowship-Treffen) getroffen. (2008-03-29) First Fellowship meeting in Augsburg
Friday, 29 March, the first Fellowship meeting in Augsburg will take place.
We are going to meet in the "Thing" bar, Vorderer Lech 45, 86150 Augsburg, right after the GNU/Linux infoday Augsburg. We expect to be there around 18:30.
Anybody who does not know Augsburg very well or is at the GNU/Linux infoday anyway can just come to the FSFE booth at the end of the event, we can then go to the meeting together.

Am 26. März um 11 Uhr ehrt die Berliner DFD Gruppe Außenminister Steinmeier aufgrund seiner Arbeit für Offene Standards. FSFE attends FOSDEM, a European Free Software developer conference organized by volunteers wich takes place from 23rd - 24th of February in Brussels (Belgium).
The event promotes the widespread use of Free Software, to provide Free Software developers and communities a place to meet, to get in touch with other projects, and to promote the development and the benefits of Free Software solutions.

On Monday 18. February at 19:00 Richard M. Stallman, founder of the GNU project and the FSF, will give a speech at the mediacentre - Atrium, Johannisstrasse 20, in 10117 Berlin-Mitte. He will talk about the history and philosophy of Free Software. The Berlin Fellowship group will have a small booth there and inform visitors about the local groupd and FSFE's work in Germany and Europe. Admission starts at 18:30. (2007-11-28) Fellowship meeting in Düsseldorf
The Duesseldorf Fellowship group proudly announces its next meeting on 28 November at 19:30 in the Pub "Südstern", Bilker Allee 66 in Düsseldorf. Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of the Freedom Task Force, will talk about Free Software licensing, business processes, and how the Free Software movement has moved deep into the mainstream of ICT deployment. Werner Koch will report about a public debate in the parliament of NRW regarding Security versus Freedom.

(2007-11-26) Fellowship meeting in Nijmegen/NL
Shane Coughlan, FSFE's Freedom Task Force coordinator will be in Nijmegen on the 26th of November and we wish to propose a Fellowship Meeting at 6:00 pm that evening in Cafe Jos.
Shane Coughlan will talk about the work of the Freedom Task Force, and discuss current events in Free Software legal activities in Europe.
Rainer Kersten, a fellow from Duesseldorf will talk about the experiences of the Rheinland Fellowship group.

A number of Free Software related events will happen around the Internet Governance Forum in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
On 11 November, a discussion oriented conference with the title "Digital Inclusion: Accelerating Global Participation and Access through Open ICT Standards" takes place from 8:30 to 17:30.
The Dynamic Coalition on Open Standards sponsors an Open Workshop titled "The Intersection of Open ICT Standards, Development, and Public Policy" on 12 November from 15:30 to 17:00, and a Best Practice Workshop on "Open ICT Standards for Greater Citizen Access: Best Practices in Government Policy and Procurement Practices" on 13 November from 16:30 to 18:00.
All these events take place in the Windsor Barra Hotel.

Prof. Arturo Di Corinto will moderate two speeches on the ethics and practice of free, open source software, by Richard Stallman, founder of the Free Software movement, and Bruce Perens, founder of the Open Source Initiative. On Thursday June 7, 2007 at 3:30 pm in the V G Kulkarni Auditorium at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Mumbai, India, Georg Greve gives a talk about Free Software and science.
Free Software and science share common roots, and benefit society in several similar ways. In his talk, Mr Greve will explain the concept of Free Software and how it relates to maintaining our scientific basis as a society. As a practical example of this collaboration, the talk will give a brief introduction of the Science, Education and Learning in Freedom project, in which the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research plays a crucial role. The talk will close with an overview of how all of this relates to the global political trends of knowledge monopolisation, and the Access to Knowledge initiative.

On Sunday April 1st, at 17h00, in Brussels, Richard Stallman will present the current status of the global project to update Free Software's keystone licence: the GNU GPL. This talk will be Stallman's first since the release of discussion draft 3 - the draft crafted to block patent deals such as that of Novell+Microsoft. From 12. April to 15. April, the FSFE will participate in the inter-sessional intergovernmental meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva. As only permanent observers were invited to participate, most Civil Society organisations will not be allowed to attend this highly critical meeting on the future agenda of WIPO. The FSFE delegation so far consists of Georg Greve, Karsten Gerloff and Volker Grassmuck. Together with other Civil Society actors, they will work to see WIPOs mission reoriented towards increasing intellectual wealth and see Free Software questions properly addressed.
